Members Meeting 2005

A first meeting of this section took place at the first ISCAR Congress on September 21, 2005. Twenty persons participated in the meeting.

Mariane Hedegaard presented the aim of the section, explaining that she wanted to create a space within ISCAR to discuss how theories of child development and childhood could be united within the cultural-historical approach.

The participants introduced themselves and their interests. The following interests were mentioned: child language, dyslexia, early communication, children's play and quality of life, play research, babies and mothers, play as related to computer play, children's use of computers and learning, innovation strategy in education around technology, children's understanding of science and technology, application of CHAT to teaching research and science education, every day and scientific concept formation across cultures, immigrant or minority children, pre-service teaching, cultural psychology research of children's values and motives, sociocultural theory about learning, cultural research in education, language culture and media identity, early childhood education, kindergartens with sport and body movements, education and graffiti, children and families links to daycare and school institutions.

Mariane provided the following suggestions for activities for the section:

Holli Tonyan suggested a list of people who would be interested in reading each other's papers/manuscripts.

The following name for the section "Cultural-historical approaches to children's development and childhood" was accepted and it was agreed that the section should include multiple disciplines and multidisciplinary work.

Marilyn Fleer and Jill Robbins agreed to take responsibility together with Mariane to organise the section.

Marilyn Fleer volunteered to edit a special issue for the journal Outlines related to papers presented within the section theme. She will contact people.

Jill Robbins should be contacted with ideas for future meetings for the section.

Mariane Hedegaard should be contacted if others would like to join the section.
