1. The winners of two scholarships :
ISCAR is pleased to announce the winners of the two scholarships to participate to ISCAR 2011 Congress in Rome. ISCAR as an organization has always sought to provide additional support to Majority World countries ISCAR members and researchers who are interested in ISCAR and wish to attend the Congress. In line with this important principle, ISCAR received a number of applications for the scholarships and two winners have been chosen.
The scholarship includes registration fees, accommodation during the congress, and travel costs. The winners are Pooja Bhargava from India and Achilles Delari Junior from Brazil. The Local Organizer Committee would like to congratulate with both of them.
In accordance with the original call, the evaluation committee took into consideration the relevance and quality of the paper proposal, the strength of the applicant's C.V. and profiles, as well as the hardship of their financial situation. Preference was given to candidates that had not received a previous scholarships or other financial support by ISCAR, in order to help as many and varied people as possible.
2. Registration
We would like to remind you that the deadline for the third registration period is March 31st 2011. VERY IMPORTANT: We remind you that the third registration period is the last one useful in order to be included into the Conference Programme. Registrations received later than March 31st will not allow the inclusion into the Conference Programme. We solicit paper/poster authors and symposia participants to register as soon as possible to the conference.
In order to register, each author should use his/her personal username and password. If you did not get these data or if you lost them, please contact info@iscar2011.org
VERY IMPORTANT: please do not use username and login of other participants. If you do it the registration will be considered under the person’s name of which you used the username and login. Therefore, please register only by using your own username and password.
100 registration places are still available for non-presenters participants (http://www.iscar2011.org/_submissions/login.php “Registration type B”). This restriction is intended to guarantee a place at the conference first to the active presenters and later to non-presenters.
3. Congress site
The inauguration of the Congress will take place at the Aula Magna at the University of Rome “Sapienza”, located within the campus. The address is Piazzale Aldo Moro 5- main entrance. This site can be reached with the Metro line “A” (“Policlinico” stop). Right after the inauguration, starting from the September 6th PM, the conference will be hosted at the Conference Centre located in via Cavour n. 50. The Cavour Conference Centre is located in Rome down town, 5 minutes walking distance from the Termini Central Station and well connected to the Leonardo Da Vinci airport (about 30 minutes by train).
Both Metro lines (A and B) are also at 5 minutes walking distance from the Cavour Conference Centre.
We remind to all participants that the Pre-Conference is on September 5th: a) the CHACDOC will take place at CNR building (piazzale Aldo Moro 7) and the “PHD day” will be hosted at Faculty of Psychology building, via dei Marsi78.
4. Accommodation
On the Congress web-site (http://www.iscar2011.org/eng/accomodation.php) it has been published a first list of recommended hotels located close to the Cavour Conference Centre. The list includes hotel of any level, ranging from 5 stars to 3 stars. Furthermore on the Congress website will be also available a list B&B and cheap accommodations suitable for younger participants Suggestion: We suggest to all the intended participants to register as soon as possible, since the deadline of March 31st is approaching and we suggest also booking your accommodation as soon as possible to be sure to get your preferred solution.
5. Social Dinner
The social dinner is scheduled for September 8th. It will be hosted at the restaurant “Villa Fiorita” (see www.ristorantevillafiorita.it) located in the area of the Roman Castles, in Via di Frascati, 254 -Rocca di Papa, about 30 kms / 22 miles from the Conference site. The cost of the social dinner is 50 Euro per person including the bus transportation from the Congress Center to the restaurant and back to the Congress Center. 150 places have been reserved at the moment, therefore those of you interested in participating to the social dinner please confirm your booking as soon as possible by selecting www.iscar2011.org/eng/social_dinner_registation.php. The payment of 50,00 Euros for the social dinner is requested cash on the first day of the Conference.
6. Call for papers for a Special Issue of EJSE (Electronic Journal of Science Education)
We transmit from the Editorial Board of the Journal the invitation to submit proposals for a special issue of the EJSE focusing on Vygotskian theories. The issue will contain articles which relate, apply (or can apply) Vygotskian theory and research, cultural-historical (sociocultural) theory, and activity theory to science education/science teacher education. The call welcomes studies from early childhood through the university level, including informal science and environmental education. Manuscripts reporting research, presenting theory, and/or arguing innovative perspectives will be considered for publication. Manuscripts must be submitted (posted to http://ejse.southwestern.edu/) by May 15, 2011. We ask that you include “For special issue on Vygotsky” under “COMMENTS FOR THE EDITOR.” (Colette Murphy and Michael Kamen)
