The Department of Communication (http://communication.ucsd.edu/), within the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego, announces an assistant professor position in the area of Analysis of Situated Practices in Communication. We seek candidates whose research, teaching, and service have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. We are looking for someone who does close empirical analysis of processes of social interaction and mediation. This could involve, for example, research on the use of information and media technology in particular life settings such as school, work, or community organizations; situated practices involving interaction through computer networks; or the role of artifacts in mediating interaction and meaning-making in daily life or work sites.
Candidates should contribute to a broader interdisciplinary community or communities at UCSD, such as those that work on digital media, human cognition, science and technology studies, urban studies, environmental studies, globalization, health, and/or human development. Candidates should have a Ph.D. and evidence of a strong research program and teaching experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
